More sad news at the centre as sweet-girl Sooty has been put to sleep!! Sweet Dreams Sweety!

We have some very sad news for you this evening, our little girl Sooty is currently at the vets and she needs to be put to sleep.

Sooty's story is very sad but highlights some of the terrible practices that are in play in the UK, the over- breeding of dogs and the abandoning of injured, sick and often healthy dogs once the breeding has stopped, as well as the general abandonment of dogs, which, is on the increase.

Sooty's Story

Sooty came to us three weeks ago from the pound with a dislocated hip, she was in terrible pain and she desperately needed an operation.

She went to a specialist vets two weeks ago and had the operation and on her recheck last week, she was doing really well and healing perfectly.
Unfortunately, she wasn’t allowed to do much exercise so had been on crate rest the last couple of weeks and has only been allowed out to pee and then had to go back in.
She didn’t eat her dinner last night or her food today and was very wobbly and lethargic when she tried to stand so we have taken her back to the vets. They have done a blood test and said that she is severely anaemic and have a terribly low red blood cell count and there’s nothing they can do to help her.
We are so sorry that she didn’t ever get the chance for her happily ever after. Sooty was used repeatedly for breeding alongside her Mother and then dumped.
The vets believe that she was potentially given oestrogen by her previous owners to force her to come into season as often as possible. This can kill the bone marrow which produces the red blood cells. They also believe her recent operation could have sped up her condition.
Despite her terrible start, she is the most loving girl and she has the wiggliest happiest bum.
She gets the major bum wiggles when she gets cheese and loves to snuggle and cuddle on our laps.
We will miss her terribly and we hope that her best friend and Mum, Sweep copes without her. Sweep is the more shy of the two so we know this will be a struggle for her.

We will keep you updated on Sweep’s progress and she learns to live without Sooty.

 We love you Sooty.
You were very loved even if only for a short time.
Goodbye baby girl.
